Djakarta Tempo Doeloe

In the clip, a specific lifestyle that embodies ignorance towards personal culture and confliction is translated, the work was based by the current issue that Indonesians face today, for many have lost sight of Indonesia as part of their identity and fail to express cultural sentiments. The work was created to invoke identity crisis, accentuating a personal crisis of Indonesians, as those participants of the party were unconscious of incidents that occur beyond their social boundaries. A fraction of Indonesian who were granted exposure to modern world, a society comprised of those who are driven towards international affairs have fail to acknowledge Indonesian roots.

In dancing, with much movement, depth, meaning through color and light pale nudes, heavy wear of hair, attire, and makeup. The way that the subjects were placed with placid expressions, dancing in leisure with ease promotes a possible ideal lifestyle to the audience that is supposed to reveal truth later displayed within the stop motion. The colors used are soft but vibrant suggest a comfortable, unadorned, and sophisticated life that one might have as a person who are lavish and privileged, are ignorant in a way due to the fact that were unconscious of the state in which bear them growth.

The subjects were dancing in a slightly lit hallway, done in black and white to emphasize movement, not distracted by colour and pattern of image. The party depicted humans momentarily, representing unconsciousness in reality. The wealthy subjects weren't aware of the war that the nation were fighting upon. The term paradoxical philistine represent this work, refers to the subjects who attend parties, luxury, and live as the high class minority favoured art, but fail to propagate on the beauty of realism and falter beauty in plight. This is a depiction of most within the modern society today, that millennials, are privileged enough by wealth, and the chance to not oblige under detrimental order in a national crisis. Indicated through the lack of knowledge and appreciation towards Indonesian culture.
